What is legalisation?

Foreign authorities need to know a document is genuine. That often means a chain of stamps — for example Ministry of Foreign Affairs + consulate, or Chamber of Commerce → translator → court → Ministry of Foreign Affairs → consulate. It depends on the country and the type of document.

In the Netherlands we only legalise Dutch documents; in Belgium only Belgian documents.

Documents

  • Civil status extract / certificate
  • Chamber of Commerce / trade papers
  • Diploma / DUO
  • Notarial deed / signature
  • Medical or medicine certificate
  • Other official papers

Full requirements per country are on the destination page.
