A visa application is possible again. You do not need a flight booking at this time! We will leave the information below for a while, for the moment that China suddenly starts demanding a flight booking again. When you complete the application form, you must answer the question about your flight! That information you need to prepare by researching the flight numbers.
Booking flight for a double entry
You are only entitled to a tourist double entry when you have to enter the mainland of China twice in your trip but you have to prove this with a booking confirmation.
- The booking confirmation from the Netherlands to China and back to the Netherlands
- If, in the meantime, you fly from mainland China to Hong Kong (or Macau or abroad) and return to mainland China, you should provide the booking confirmation of the flights to show that you indeed need a double entry.
- The booking confirmation may also be of a train, boat or bus.
Sometimes we are also able to request a double entry through hotel booking in Hong Kong. You’ll need the flight from the Netherlands (or another country) and back, then a hotel booking in Hong Kong or Macau with a clear date which is between your arrival and departure date on your flight ticket. This option is a bit dependent on the Chinese official who handles your application. If it does not work, you simply need the booking confirmation from the flight, bus, boat or train to request the double entry.
A booking of the hotel for a minimum of one night
Please note, if you fly directly to Hong Kong and also fly back from Hong Kong, China, you will also need a hotel booking in mainland China to prove that you indeed will stay in China.
- If you have visited Turkey and it is visible in your passport through stamps, you will probably be invited by the embassy within 24 hours (only on business days) after your visa application has been accepted by the consulate
- If an interview takes place at the request of the embassy, there will be a delay in the duration of the procedure
- In busy periods the waiting time can even increase to a few weeks, in the quiet period a number of working days
- You must then bring an extra color passport photo
- The duration of the visa application procedure will not start until the embassy has given its approval to the consulate.
Since 7 of August 2017, a number of additional documents are required with your application, depending on your situation you need:
- If you work for an employer, you need:
(a) An employer’s declaration (click here for an example in a WORD file).
(b) The declaration must be printed on your company’s letterhead or stamped with the company
- If you have your own company, you need:
(1.) 1.) An English language extract from the Dutch Chamber of Commerce, not over three months, and your name must be mentioned on the extract.
(2.) Plus your last VAT return, even if it may have been a zero declaration

Note the information about minors is not related to the type of visa on this page! As an example, a minor has not the right to apply for a work or business visa or many other types of visas! Only in the case that a minor is traveling with an adult or parent or parents, or even alone, you will need to use these extra documents. Minors in the Netherlands have their own passport and are not registered in the passport of the parents, as it the case for other countries! That means that minors need always to apply for their own, separate visa.
When your underage children travel with you, you also need:
- A copy of the birth certificate, which contains the names of the child and parents.
- In the event that one of the parents does not travel and only one parent applies for the visa, or the visa application is only offered without the parents, you must also complete this form and sign it by both parents.
In case the minor child has been adopted from China, you will need:
- A copy of the birth certificate, which contains the names of the child and parents
- A copy of all the adoption papers of the child

Tips and explanation
- Please note that you can only start your visa application two months prior to arrival in China.
- The validity of the visa starts after your visa has been accepted by the consulate and not on the date of entry.
- The visa is valid for 3 months after delivery by the consulate, you have 3 months to enter the country and stay for up to 30 days after arrival.
Mainland China has a visa requirement, except for Hong Kong and Macau. You need one visa to travel all over China. A 30-day visa means that you can stay for up to 30 days from the time you land in China. If you cross the border from China to another country (including Hong Kong and Macau, even if these two cities are Chinese!), Your visa will lose its validity. If you want to travel to Hong Kong or Macau and return to mainland China later, you will need a double-entry visa (for double entry). You cannot just request a double entry. You must read the conditions for a double-entry on our website. Go back to the main page and then click on your visa type for a double entry.
